In a major step toward accelerating enterprise AI adoption in India, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced an integrated AI infrastructure initiative in collaboration with US chipmaker NVIDIA. The partnership aims to build large-scale, production-ready AI infrastructure combining L&T’s engineering and execution strengths with NVIDIA’s advanced AI computing ecosystem.
Engineering Meets AI Compute Power
The project will bring together:
L&T’s expertise in engineering, infrastructure development, and large-scale execution
NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure stack, including:
High-performance GPUs and CPUs
Advanced networking technologies
NVIDIA-accelerated storage platforms from leading providers
NVIDIA AI Enterprise software stack
Reference architectures for rapid and secure deployment
This integrated model is designed to help enterprises move beyond AI experimentation and toward production-scale, industrial-grade AI deployment.
Scaling GPU Clusters Across Chennai & Mumbai
A key highlight of the initiative is the large-scale GPU cluster deployment across L&T’s data center assets:
Chennai Data Center Campus
Located on a 300-acre Gigawatt-scalable campus
GPU cluster deployment scalable up to 30 MW capacity
Mumbai Data Center
New 40 MW data center currently under execution
Designed to support high-density AI workloads
Together, these facilities position L&T to build one of India’s most significant AI-focused data infrastructure ecosystems.
The “AI Factory” Model
L&T describes the initiative as an AI Factory model — a standardized, enterprise-grade infrastructure setup designed to deliver predictable, secure, and high-performance AI services.
The AI Factory will cater to:
Global off-takers
Hyperscalers
Indian enterprises
Target Sectors
Manufacturing
Infrastructure
Energy
Financial services
Healthcare
Public services
The goal is to enable organizations to move from pilot projects to full-scale AI deployment with assured performance, security, and time-to-value.
Data Center Capacity & Capex Investment
Currently, L&T has:
32 MW total data center capacity
14 MW operational
18 MW to be commissioned by the end of the current fiscal
The total capital expenditure for its data center expansion stands at approximately ₹1,000 crore.
This investment underlines L&T’s strategic pivot toward digital infrastructure and AI-led growth.
Strategic Significance for India
This collaboration is significant for several reasons:
Boost to India’s AI Infrastructure – Enhances domestic availability of high-performance AI computing.
Reduced Dependence on Overseas AI Infrastructure – Strengthens local AI capabilities.
Industrial AI Adoption – Supports AI use cases in core sectors like manufacturing and energy.
Attracting Global AI Workloads – Positions India as a competitive AI data center destination.
As global AI demand surges, large-scale AI infrastructure will become as critical as traditional industrial capacity. With this initiative, L&T is positioning itself not just as an infrastructure giant—but as a foundational player in India’s AI ecosystem
